Apple’s New Revolutionary Device - iPad

ipad1

The best way to experience the web, email, photos and video. Hands down.

All of the built-in apps on iPad were designed from the ground up to take advantage of the large, Multi-Touch screen. And they’ll work in any orientation. So you can do things with these apps you can’t do on any other device.

Safari

safari_20100127

The large Multi-Touch screen on iPad lets you see web pages as they were meant to be seen — one whole page at a time. With vibrant colour and sharp text. So whether you’re looking at a page in portrait or landscape, you can see everything at a size that’s actually readable. And with iPad, navigating through the web has never been easier or more intuitive. Because you use the most natural pointing device there is: your finger. You can scroll through a page just by flicking your finger up or down on the screen. Or pinch to zoom in or out on a photo. There’s also a thumbnail view that shows all your open pages in a grid, to let you quickly move from one page to the next.

Mailmail_20100127

See and touch your email in ways you never could before. In landscape, you get a split-screen view, showing both an opened email and the messages in your Inbox. To see the opened email by itself you just turn iPad to portrait, and the email automatically rotates and fills the screen. No matter which orientation you use, you can scroll through your mail, compose a new email using the large on-screen keyboard, or delete messages, with nothing more than a tap and a flick. If someone emails you a photo, you can see it right in the message. You can also save the photos in an email directly to the built-in Photos app. And iPad will work with all the popular email providers, including MobileMe, Yahoo! Mail, Gmail, Hotmail and AOL.

Photos

photos_20100127

With its crisp, vibrant display and its unique software features, iPad is an extraordinary way to enjoy and share your photos. For example, the new Photos app displays the photos in an album as though they were in a stack. Just tap or pinch to open the stack, and the whole album opens up. Then you can flip through your pictures, zoom in or out, or watch a slideshow. You can even use your iPad as a beautiful digital photo frame while your iPad is docked or charging. And there are lots of ways to import photos: you can sync them from your computer, download them from an email, or import them directly from your camera using the Apple Camera Connection Kit.

Video

video_20100127

The large, high-resolution screen makes iPad perfect for watching any kind of video. You can also easily move between wide-screen and full-screen with a double-tap. And because it’s essentially one big screen, with no buttons or anything to distract you, the picture fills your line of sight. So you feel completely immersed in what you’re watching.

YouTube

youtube_20100127

The YouTube app organises videos so they’re really easy to see and navigate. To watch one, you just tap it. When you’re watching in landscape, the video will automatically play in full screen. And with its high-resolution display, the latest YouTube HD videos will look amazing on iPad.

iPod

ipod_20100127 With the iPod app, all your music is literally at your fingertips. You can browse by album, song, artist or genre, with a simple flick. To play a song just tap it, and the now playing screen will show the album art at full size. Then you can listen to your music with either the powerful built-in speaker, or with wired or Bluetooth wireless headphones.

and many more features.

The Price starts at US$499 for a 16GB (Wifi Enabled) iPad.

Smart balls reveal how better bowlers get that perfect strike

London: Always wondered how some people always manage to get a strike in the bowling alley, while you struggle to keep your shots out of the gutter? Well, a smart training ball might hold the key to the secret.

cricket_ball_o74i1

Sports scientist Franz Fuss of the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in Australia fitted aluminium tubes in the thumb and finger holes of a regular tenpin bowling ball.

Each tube had a strain gauge at the bottom to measure and log the forces the players' fingers were applying on each shot.

The researchers made ten players of differing abilities to use the ball to attempt various shots.

Fuss found that the strain gauge measurements from the ball enabled him to identify the characteristics of successful shots, reports New Scientist.

For instance, better bowlers consistently pinch the ball with much greater force immediately prior to release, to allow a faster delivery.

Latest in Technology - E-Toilet

Perhaps, for geeks like us, this is something that you really don’t wanna miss. The e-Toilet, which was unveiled by Bill Gates, if you really can’t let go of surfing the net, even just to spend few minutes in the toilet, this is a must-have. The eToilet lets you surf the net, play music from Zune and it also monitors your personal hygiene by shutting down the lid automatically if left open.

The eToilet includes a 21-inch flat-screen monitor built into the toilet lid itself that swings out on a swivel arm when you are….. in position. Many of its functions are activated by touch, and the eToilet contains a proximity sensor that will protect the screen from spray during use or flushing.

Additionally, the eToilet’s composition gauge will offer web-based dietary recommendations and guidelines based on the physical makeup of the material that is input into the device, and it has a delay mechanism to prevent flushing while someone is in the shower. However, arguably the most intriguing feature of the eToilet is the integration of Microsoft’s patented eLoo technology that allows for the activation of remote call features.

It’ll be out in the market next month, which will retail between $499 to $599. I’m just simply very thankful to Microsoft for taking its best effort to get geeks like us glued to the computer and Internet.

Free Games for You

mega-mario-computer-game

A list of free games to keep you occupied until Christmas

The month of December always lightens the bank account, and many PC gamers may feel withdrawal symptoms as they wait for the month-end present harvest. In an effort to stave away the gaming blues, we’ve rounded up a list of free games.

Synaesthete (https://typo3.digipen.edu/index.php?id=986)

Synaesthete puts you in control of Zaikman, who has to navigate the game world – the collective unconscious – and zap monsters using his affinity with the musical soundtrack and a number of power-ups. The game features original compositions of music ranging from ambient trance to regular trance. The entire game world is a visualisation which pulses and animates to the beat of the music.

FreeCiv (http://freeciv.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page)

One for the strategy buffs, FreeCiv is pretty much a recreation of the original Sid Meier classics, Civilization 1 and 2. The game is open source, and is constantly being tweaked, refined, and updated. There are numerous player created rule sets that can be used, and up to 30 players are supported over TCP/IP.

UFO: Alien Invasion (http://ufoai.sourceforge.net/?page=Home)

The year is 2084 and of course, the human race must defend itself against a terrifying alien enemy. Inspired by the X-COM, UFO: AI is a squad based tactical strategy game. The game has two main modes of gameplay, a base management and research mode, and a tactical combat mode. The game was developed on the Quake 2 engine and has some snazzy 3D graphics. The game supports up to 6 players over TCP/IP.

Scorched 3D (http://www.scorched3d.co.uk/)

This is the modernisation of a classic DOS game - Scorched Earth. That game was so classic, it was yelling at those darn Worms to get off its scorched lawn. Scorched 3D is a turn-based artillery combat game in which players must manage their ammunition, weaponry and economy during a battle of wits and skill in which there can only be one victor. The game supports multiplayer over TCP/IP, with a number of Internet servers up and running.

Nifflas' Games (http://nifflas.ni2.se/index.php?main=02Knytt)

Not a game, but a game developer, with three really cool 2D side-scrolling platform games available to play - Knytt, Knytt Stories, and Within a Deep Forest. All the games feature colourful and detailed pixelart, clever animations and intriguing storylines. Definitely worth checking out.

Alien Arena  (http://icculus.org/alienarena/rpa/)

One for the FPS fans, this is a retro Sci-Fi deathmatch arena game that feels like the lovechild of Quake 3 and Unreal Tournament. The game also boasts some pretty impressive visuals considering it is an open source project. There is a single player campaign, but the multiplayer is the real attraction. Unfortunately there are no dedicated South African servers, but it could make for a refreshing change at LANs.

Secret Maryo Chronicles (http://www.secretmaryo.org/)

A platform game that runs and jumps, barely avoids some sort of copyright infringement, and defeats an assortment of enemies . Developed in the spirit of another popular platform game, Secret Maryo should satiate a craving for retro platform action, with a modern flavour. The game comes with a full featured level editor for those who feel the need to fiddle.

Planeshift (http://www.planeshift.it/)

This is a truly free MMORPG. This means that there will never be any surprise premium content, or gameplay limitations. All the servers and bandwidth needs are sponsored. The developers are going for a strong emphasis on the role playing element of the game, encouraging players to really 'act out' their decided character traits. The game is currently in the open public testing phase, so it will undoubtedly be a bit buggy. But it is still worth checking out for the MMORPG lovers on a budget.

New Internet Scam Alert

scam

US health officials on Thursday warned of an Internet scam doing the rounds which says all adults are required to register a personal swine flu vaccination profile with the federal authorities.

The bogus message says that although vaccination against pandemic (A)H1N1 flu is not obligatory, anyone aged 18 or older whether they have had the vaccine or not, is required to create a "personal H1N1 (swine flu) vaccination profile" with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

If recipients of the scam email try to comply with the message and click on a link it says will take them to the CDC website, they could be at risk of "having malicious code installed on their system," the CDC warned.

"The CDC has NOT implemented a state vaccination program requiring registration on www.cdc.gov," the federal health agency said in a statement.

When the United States launched a swine flu vaccination campaign in October, high demand was met by low supply, and many people were turned away empty-handed from free vaccination clinics.

The head of the CDC, Thomas Frieden, said this week that there are now around 70 million (A)H1N1 vaccine doses available.

Eat a lot of Fruits

fruits21

We all think eating fruits means just buying fruits, cutting it and just popping it into our mouths. It's not as easy as you think. It's important to know how and when to eat.

What is the correct way of eating fruits?

IT MEANS NOT EATING FRUITS AFTER YOUR MEALS!  FRUITS SHOULD BE EATEN ON AN EMPTY STOMACH.

If you eat fruit like that, it will play a major role to detoxify your system, supplying you with a great deal of energy for weight loss and other life activities.

FRUIT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT FOOD. Let's say you eat two slices of bread and then a slice of fruit. The slice of fruit is ready to go straight through the stomach into the intestines, but it is prevented from doing so.

In the meantime the whole meal rots and ferments and turns to acid. The minute the fruit comes into contact with the food in the stomach and digestive juices, the entire mass of food begins to spoil....

So please eat your fruits on an empty stomach or before your meals! You have heard people complaining - every time I eat watermelon I burp, when I eat durian my stomach bloats up, when I eat a banana I feel like running to the toilet etc - actually all this will not arise if you eat the fruit on an empty stomach. The fruit mixes with the putrefying other food and produces gas and hence you will bloat!

Graying hair, balding, nervous outburst, and dark circles under the eyes all these will NOT happen if you take fruits on an empty stomach...

There is no such thing as some fruits, like orange and lemon are acidic, because all fruits become alkaline in our body, according to Dr. Herbert Shelton who did research on this matter.  If you have mastered the correct way of eating fruits, you have the Secret of beauty, longevity, health, energy, happiness and normal weight.

When you need to drink fruit juice - drink only fresh fruit juice, NOT from the cans. Don't even drink juice that has been heated up. Don't eat cooked fruits because you don't get the nutrients at all. You only get to taste. Cooking destroys all the vitamins.

But eating a whole fruit is better than drinking the juice. If you should drink the juice, drink it mouthful by mouthful slowly, because you must let it mix with your saliva before swallowing it. You can go on a 3-day fruit fast to cleanse your body. Just eat fruits and drink fruit juice throughout the 3 days and you will be surprised when your friends tell you how radiant you look!

Kiwi KIWI: Tiny but mighty. This is a good source of potassium, magnesium, vitamin E & fiber. Its vitamin C content is twice that of an orange.

fresh-apple1233606650APPLE: An apple a day keeps the doctor away? Although an apple has a low vitamin C content, it has antioxidants & flavonoids which enhances the activity of vitamin C thereby helping to lower the risks of colon cancer, heart attack & stroke.

strawberry STRAWBERRY: Protective Fruit. Strawberries have the highest total antioxidant power among major fruits & protect the body from cancer-causing, blood vessel-clogging free radicals.

oranges-vitamin-c-lg ORANGE : Sweetest medicine. Taking 2-4 oranges a day may help keep colds away, lower cholesterol, prevent & dissolve kidney stones as well as lessens the risk of colon cancer.

watermelon WATERMELON: Coolest thirst quencher.. Composed of 92% water, it is also packed with a giant dose of glutathione, which helps boost our immune system. They are also a key source of lycopene - the cancer fighting oxidant. Other nutrients found in watermelon are vitamin C & Potassium.

papaya GUAVA & PAPAYA: Top awards for vitamin C. They are the clear winners for their high vitamin C content. Guava is also rich in fiber, which helps prevent constipation. Papaya is rich in carotene; this is good for your eyes. guava

Drinking Cold water after a meal = Cancer! Can u believe this?? For those who like to drink cold water, this article is applicable to you. It is nice to have a cup of cold drink after a meal. However, the cold water will solidify the oily stuff that you have just consumed. It will slow down the digestion. Once this 'sludge' reacts with the acid, it will break down and be absorbed by the intestine faster than the solid food. It will line the intestine. Very soon, this will turn into fats and lead to cancer. It is best to drink hot soup or warm water after a meal.

A serious note about heart attacks HEART ATTACK PROCEDURE': (THIS IS NOT A JOKE!) Women should know that not every heart attack symptom is going to be the left arm hurting. Be aware of intense pain in the jaw line.. You may never have the first chest pain during the course of a heart attack . Nausea and intense sweating are also common symptoms.. Sixty percent of people who have a heart attack while they are asleep do not wake up. Pain in the jaw can wake you from a sound sleep. Let's be careful and be aware. The more we know the better chance we could survive...

Why would only humans make use of eco-friendly technology? OOOMS designed a birdhouse with a solar panel on it’s roof. During the day sunlight feeds the solar panel , charging a small battery inside. At twilight the transparent stick will light up and cast a tiny light on your garden.
This light attracts an easy nighttime snack for the bird; all she has to do is stick her beak out of the hole and wait for the buzz.
