2-in-1 – Lighter and Flash Disk

I found it very strange to put the lighter and Flash Disk together in one jacket, that too the Zippo-Style-Lighter is fully working.

Flashbag Pumping USB Drive

flashbag

Flashbag is a USB drive that inflates relative to the amount of data it holds. It's an interesting concept, but doesn't seem practical in actual use. Not only would the inflated drive be annoying to use, it'd also tip off your co-workers as to just how much mp3, games and movies you were storing in there.

 kingston-datatraveler-06-15-09

Kingston Technology First to Market with a 128GB Capacity USB Drive

Kingston Technology Europe recently announced the release of the Kingston DataTraveler 200, the world’s first 128GB USB Flash drive.

The Kingston DataTraveler 200 provides users with the option to password protect their data, as well as giving consumers and business users the flexibility to carry vast amounts of data with them at all times.

“The DataTraveler 200’s immense 128GB storage capability lets users store as much data as 182 music CDs or up to 27 DVD movies. Business users benefit as they can carry around large databases or files whilst they are out of the office,” said Jim Selby, European Product Marketing Manager, Kingston Technology.

“The password protection facility helps safeguard data and requires no admin rights, making the DataTraveler 200 a terrific solution for the home or office.” The Kingston 128 GB USB Drive arrives just short of a decade after Trek Technology and IBM launched their first USB Flash Drives commercially.  IBM's USB flash drive became available in late 2000 and had a storage capacity of 8 MB.

Multi partition a USB flash drive in Windows

usb-flash-drive13

Ever wondered how to set up more than one partition on a USB flash drive using Windows XP? In the following tutorial, I'll show you how to do just that. But first, let me explain how it works. By default, a USB flashdrive is detected by Windows XP/Vista as removable media and thus will not display more than one partition. In addition, Windows will not allow you to multi partition removable media. However, if we can make Windows see the USB flashdrive as a fixed drive, Windows will then allow us to create multiple USB flashdrive partitions. Windows will also detect and display those multiple USB flashdrive partitions.

In order for this to happen, we need to flip the Removable Media Bit (RMB) on the USB Device. This will tell Windows that the flashdrive is a fixed disk and not removable media. After successfully flipping the bit, you'll be able to multi partition the flashdrive and Windows will display all partitions.

How to Flip the Flashdrive Removable Media Bit:

Warning: This tool will not work on all flashdrives and it could potentially mess up your drive. No warranty is being offered, USE AT YOUR OWN RISK! backup all information from your USB device before proceeding.

  1. Download the BootIt tool and extract to your PC
  2. Plugin your flashdrive and run BootIt.exe
  3. Select the option to Flip Removable Bit:

boot-it

  1. Then, remove and reinsert your flashdrive. Your flashdrive should now be detected by Windows as a fixed disk (not a removable disk). You can check this by right clicking the device and checking the device properties

How to setup multiple flashdrive partitions in Windows:

The following assumes that you have already Flipped the Removable Media Bit

  1. Navigate to Start -> Run and type diskmgmt.msc in the dialog box then click Ok
  2. From the disk management window, right click your flashdrive and select the option to Delete Partition:

    delete-partition
  3. Right Click your flashdrive again and select the New Partition option:
    new-partition
  4. Follow the New Partition Wizard and create a "Primary Partition". Once you get to the dialog box to set the Partition Size, be sure to set the Size to be smaller than the drives capacity to leave free space for the next partition:
    partition-size
  5. Continue through the Wizard, giving your device a drive letter and formating the partition. I recommend a Fat32 partition.
  6. After you have created the first partition, you can create additional partitions using step 3-5 on the unallocated empty space that remains on the drive:
    remaining-partitions
  7. Once finished, you should have multiple partitions on your USB flash drive that are detected and usable in Windows as separate drives:

If you want to get a little steampunk in your life but you don’t want to fork out the big bucks for a keyboard, then one of these flash drives might be worth considering. They are a fairly tasteful design and the copper looks pretty good and although I wouldn’t blow $50 on a 2GB drive, there are plenty of people who would. Via: uberreview.

Gold Bar USB Flash Disk

gold-bar-usb-drive-450x298

With banks in financial crisis, many are saying that putting your money in gold is the safest investment these days. But what about your data? Is gold a good place to put your data? Maybe we should all be living it up Trump-style and walk around with gold bars USB flash drives for our data (which we would not carry ourselves, our butler would have to haul them around trailing a few feet behind us at all times of course). Maybe those cash for gold people are right, maybe we should all be hoarding our gold, transforming all aspects of our lives into gold plated wonderlands.
